Westfield’s Anthony Roberts Hits Home Run and Throws No-Hitter in Consolation Match

Westfield Pitcher Shines with No-Hitter in 9-1 Victory

WESTFIELD – In an impressive performance on May 26, Westfield pitcher Anthony Roberts threw a complete game no-hitter against Chicopee Comp, striking out 11 batters and allowing just one run in a 9-1 triumph at Bullens Field. Roberts demonstrated excellent command throughout the game, showcasing his ability to mix pitches effectively. "He kept pounding the strike zone," remarked Westfield baseball coach Mike Kennedy.

Roberts not only dominated on the mound but also contributed offensively, hitting a solo homer in a six-run sixth inning, where Robert Ninotti added a two-run single. Westfield catcher Isaiah Gomez played a crucial role in orchestrating the game, facilitating Roberts’ success. Gomez finished with two RBIs, while Ninotti led the team with a 3-for-4 performance, stealing multiple bases alongside Patrick Moore, contributing to the Bombers’ total of five stolen bases.

Following this victory, Westfield, with an 11-7 record, earned the No. 19 seed in the Massachusetts Division II baseball tournament and will face No. 14 Milford on June 2 at Fino Field. Meanwhile, Westfield Technical Academy fell to Old Colony 4-0, despite a commendable effort from pitcher Antonio Simpson.
