On June 1, authorities in Boulder, Colorado, are investigating a “targeted terror attack,” as confirmed by FBI Director Kash Patel. At approximately 1:26 PM local time, Boulder dispatch received multiple reports of a man with a weapon and individuals being set on fire near the county courthouse on Pearl Street. Responding officers found several victims with varying degrees of burns and other injuries; those wounded were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
A suspect, who has not yet been identified, was apprehended and also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn reported that, while the situation was contained, a large portion of downtown Boulder remained closed off for safety. He noted that police are investigating a “vehicle of interest” and emphasized the need for caution in the area.
Governor Jared Polis expressed his concern, stating that he is closely monitoring the situation and condemned the attack as “heinous,” highlighting the unacceptability of hate-fueled acts. The Anti-Defamation League is also observing developments, particularly as the incident coincides with a Jewish community event called “Run for Their Lives,” which supports hostages taken in an earlier conflict.
As of now, police have not disclosed any motive for the attack, and authorities continue to focus on ensuring safety in the area while gathering more information.
