Amherst and Wakefield Shine at Division IV Track and Field Championships

Merrimack College hosted the thrilling conclusion of the Division IV outdoor track and field championships this Sunday, where Amherst captured their first-ever girls team title with an impressive 87.5 points, while Wakefield triumphed in the boys competition with 74 points.

Amherst’s historic achievement was marked by strong relay performances, notably winning the 4×400 relay and securing second in the 4×800. "We had a whole host of contributors, and seeing our vision turn into reality was electrifying," coach Christopher Gould said. Key athletes included Moriah Luetjen, who performed valiantly across multiple events, and Elizabeth Sawicki, who excelled in pole vault.

On the boys’ side, Wakefield edged out Pembroke, finishing with 74 points. They excelled in both relays, earning crucial points in field events including high jump and pole vault. Jamari Belmer’s second in long jump and strong performances from Henry Brown and Ryan Hogan were pivotal.

Additional standout highlights included Miles Jeffries’ new PR of 49.71 in the 400 meters and Aili Spencer’s impressive long jump of 19 feet. With this remarkable championship day, both Amherst and Wakefield have etched their names in track and field history.
