DHS Sanctuary Jurisdiction List Disappears Amid Backlash
Washington, D.C. — A controversial list of “sanctuary jurisdictions” released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was abruptly removed from the agency’s website following intense criticism. Initially published last week, the list identified localities alleged to be non-compliant with federal immigration enforcement. However, it faced backlash for including regions that have actively supported the Trump administration’s stringent immigration policies.
DHS stated the list was part of its strategy to identify communities not sufficiently aiding its immigration agenda aimed at deporting over 11 million undocumented individuals. Following the list’s release, users encountered a "Page Not Found" error message on the website just days later.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem acknowledged the pushback from officials, asserting that certain cities qualify as sanctuary jurisdictions despite their objections. The list is subject to ongoing evaluations and updates.
Jim Davel, administrator for Shawano County, Wisconsin, contested his county’s inclusion, suggesting it arose from a clerical error due to their unrelated “Second Amendment Sanctuary” designation. Davel emphasized that the county has no policies offering sanctuary to immigrants, stressing their overwhelming support for Trump in the 2020 election.
