HOLYOKE, MA – A variety of support groups dedicated to caregivers and families facing health challenges are enhancing community resilience across Western Massachusetts.

The upcoming meeting is scheduled for June 10, from 4 to 5 p.m. Participants can connect with Sandy Wallis, AFTD Support Group Leader, at 413-532-0543 for more information and registration.

In Wilbraham, Rick’s Place provides free peer grief support for youth aged 5-18 and their caregivers. Since its founding in memory of 9/11 victim Rick Thorpe in 2007, the program has become a vital resource for families in Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut, focusing on remembrance and combating isolation. Interested families can learn more by contacting Rick’s Place at 413-279-2010 or via email at info@ricksplacema.org.

Additionally, Baystate Health is rolling out virtual cancer support groups, including a General Cancer Support Group, Partners in Caregiving, and others on a weekly basis. These sessions, led by oncology social worker Camille St. Onge, aim to provide support to patients and their families.

For mental health support, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-WM) has resumed both virtual and in-person support groups, including specialized sessions for the LGBTQIA+ community and Black and Brown families.

Furthermore, ongoing opportunities exist for grieving individuals and families dealing with substance use disorders, providing critical connection and resources.
