Statewide Girls’ Tennis Tournament Kicks Off with Exciting Matchups
The statewide girls’ tennis tournament commenced on Tuesday, May 27, showcasing thrilling matchups across various divisions. In Division I, No. 4 Wellesley dominated No. 13 Franklin with a 5-0 victory, while No. 8 Winchester defeated No. 9 Needham 4-1, and No. 2 Newton South triumphed over No. 15 Natick 4-1.
In Division II, No. 5 Amherst easily secured a 4-1 win against No. 12 Sharon, sweeping all singles matches with Katie Gromacki, Emma Learned-Miller, and Mahina Ganesun, only dropping nine sets collectively. The doubles pair Daniella Sherman and Aliya Osman also contributed to the win. For Sharon, Anya Shukla and Sydney Weiner managed a victory in second-team doubles. Amherst moves into the Round of 8, facing No. 4 Hingham or No. 20 Ursuline.
Division III saw No. 21 Bishop Fenwick pull off a stunning 5-0 upset against No. 5 Belchertown, only dropping one set throughout the matches. They’ll face the winner of No. 4 Old Rochester Regional and No. 13 Danvers in the quarterfinals.
