Press Release: Tina Knowles Discusses Balancing Family and Business with Daughter Beyoncé
In a recent episode of Meghan Markle’s “Confessions of a Female Founder” podcast, Tina Knowles, mother of pop icon Beyoncé, shared insights into navigating the complexities of family-run businesses. Tina, 71, and Beyoncé, 43, co-founded the haircare line Cécred, which launched in 2024 and gained popularity for its revitalizing hair drops.
Reflecting on their partnership, Tina acknowledged the challenges of mixing family ties with business, stating, “There are difficulties sometimes because when you’re dealing with your child… you have disagreements.” Despite these conflicts, Tina often finds herself stepping back during disputes, emphasizing, “I’m the one to always cave… I don’t want to waste that time, and I don’t ever want to not be close to my kids.”
Tina’s commitment to family is evident. She expressed that her primary goal is ensuring Beyoncé thrives in life beyond her music career, remarking, “I just want to leave this earth knowing that she… is going to be okay.” She underscored that while they occasionally clash, their overall relationship remains strong.
In her recent memoir, Matriarch, released on April 22, Tina reflects on her journey as a mother and businesswoman. She highlighted Beyoncé’s initial hesitation to start the haircare line due to her long-standing focus on her music career, saying it took considerable convincing from her mother.
Tina also praised Beyoncé’s business acumen, noting her daughter’s trust in her expertise. “She knows so much about hair… Sometimes I’ll have ideas, and she’s always supportive,” Tina remarked, reinforcing their collaborative spirit within the business venture.
As they continue to navigate the world of entrepreneurship together, the bond between Tina and Beyoncé remains as vibrant as the products they create.
