Body of Hiker Missing with Daughter Discovered in Maine

Tragic Discovery at Mount Katahdin: Search Continues for Missing Hiker

Maine authorities confirmed the body of Tim Keiderling, 58, from Ulster Park, New York, was discovered near the summit of Mount Katahdin on Tuesday afternoon, following a hiking trip with his daughter, Ester Keiderling, 28. The pair had set out from Abol Campground early Sunday morning but were reported missing when their vehicle remained in the parking lot and they failed to return.

Search and rescue operations commenced on Monday, utilizing over 30 game wardens, K9 teams, and aerial support from three helicopters, including a Blackhawk from the Maine Army National Guard that employed infrared imaging. Despite extensive searches of the Abol Trail, Hunt Trail, and Katahdin Tablelands, Ester is still unaccounted for.

Authorities have since closed the Hunt and Abol Trails to focus resources on the ongoing search. Baxter State Park rangers have requested anyone with information regarding the Keiderlings’ hike on Sunday between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to reach out to Houlton State Police at 207-532-5400. The community expresses its heartfelt condolences to the grieving family during this difficult time.
