Gregory Shaw Leads Valley Blue Sox to Opening-Day Victory Over Newport Gulls
HOLYOKE – In an impressive opener, Gregory Shaw showcased his pitching prowess, leading the Valley Blue Sox to a 1-0 victory against the Newport Gulls on Tuesday night. Shaw struck out six batters in five innings and only allowed one hit along with two walks, demonstrating his determination to improve with each outing.
Having been recognized as a 2024 NECBL All-Star Pitcher, Shaw’s performance was highly anticipated. Last season, he played a pivotal role for the Blue Sox, starting six games and maintaining a 2.34 ERA. This year, he also shined with the UConn Huskies, boasting a 4-0 record and 43 strikeouts.
Newly appointed head coach Endy Morales praised Shaw’s professionalism, confirming him as the Opening-Day starter for his experience and skill set. Shaw expressed satisfaction in defeating the defending champions after they eliminated Valley from the 2024 NECBL playoffs. Yet, his focus remains on consistent performance for the team.
“I just want to go out there and compete,” Shaw stated. “The wins and losses will take care of themselves.” The Blue Sox hope Shaw’s leadership translates into a successful season ahead.
