Press Release: Division Softball Tournament Highlights
In a decisive round of 16 in the Division I state softball tournament, top-seeded Taunton triumphed over No. 17 Weymouth, 7-1, with Jillian Ondrick striking out five batters for Weymouth. Taunton will face No. 8 Bridgewater-Raynham in the quarterfinals.
Elsewhere, No. 3 King Philip dominated Newton North, winning 12-0. Brianna Arzuaga secured two of the Tigers’ three hits, while King Philip prepares to play No. 6 Lincoln-Sudbury next.
In Division II, Walpole overpowered Stoughton, 17-0, led by Adrianna Torres and Sharlotte Stazinski, who struck out 10. Walpole now faces No. 5 Westfield, which defeated Somerset Berkley 3-0, buoyed by pitcher Shea Hurley’s impressive 13 strikeouts.
Notably, Westwood edged Malden Catholic 4-3 in a thrilling walk-off victory, with Izzy Walsh driving in the winning run.
In Division IV, Hampshire dispatched Clinton, 14-1, with Teagan Charles contributing significantly at the plate. No. 7 Abington bested No. 10 Wahconah, 9-4, to advance.
Finally, in Division V, Turners Falls narrowly defeated Drury 1-0, while Greenfield and West Boylston also secured victories to progress in the tournament.
The quarterfinal matchups promise to be exciting as teams head into the next round!
