St. John’s Shrewsbury Baseball Team Triumphs Over BC High in Div. 1 Playoff Showdown
SHREWSBURY — In a thrilling display of resilience, the St. John’s of Shrewsbury baseball team overcame two sizable deficits to secure a dramatic 15-8 victory against defending champion BC High in the Div. 1 second round on Wednesday.
The second-seeded Pioneers, who had suffered heartbreak in last year’s state final against BC High, began the game down 4-0. Yet, a spirited fourth-inning rally, highlighted by key hits from Aiden LeBel and Gabe Terlato, tied the game at 4-4. As the Eagles regained momentum, freshman reliever Anthony Dufour stifled further scoring from St. John’s, allowing BC High to pull ahead again.
However, the sixth inning proved pivotal. With St. John’s trailing 7-4, junior shortstop Conor Secrist and teammates loaded the bases, leading to a series of clutch hits and walks. The Pioneers scored 11 runs in the inning, showcasing their offensive depth and teamwork.
Head coach Casey Cummins praised his team’s toughness, while Secrist expressed his determination to avenge last year’s loss. With this victory, St. John’s advances confidently in the playoffs, demonstrating remarkable perseverance and skill.
