Sports Roundup: Playoff Highlights Across Local Teams
In an exciting week of playoff action, several local teams showcased their talents in baseball, boys and girls lacrosse, and softball.
In baseball, No. 11 Wellesley defeated No. 6 Andover 3-1, thanks to a strong outing from Lincoln-Loftus. No. 10 St. John’s Prep triumphed over Wachusett, securing a 5-2 victory. The offense was relentless for No. 6 Somerset Berkley, who beat No. 22 Melrose 7-4, powered by Luke Thornton’s standout performance.
Boys lacrosse saw No. 7 Manchester-Essex clinch a thrilling 9-8 victory in overtime against No. 10 Pentucket. Third-seeded Norwell cruised past North Reading 11-2, with Jake McGuirk leading the charge.
On the girls’ side, No. 3 Westwood dominated No. 14 Billerica 19-8, with Caroline Nozzolillo scoring seven goals. No. 5 Hingham also excelled, defeating Northampton 19-3.
