Two escapees from a New Orleans jail, Jermaine Donald and Leo Tate, were arrested in Texas, while two others, Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves, remain on the run three weeks after their jailbreak. On June 4, a social media post attributed to Massey claimed innocence, featuring a photo of him in Houston Rockets gear, raising concerns about its authenticity. This follows a June 1 video where Massey insisted he wasn’t the mastermind of the escape. The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office urged him to turn himself in but did not confirm the video’s legitimacy.
Authorities, including the U.S. Marshals Service and Louisiana State Police, are investigating the situation. They confirmed that all video evidence is part of the ongoing investigation and expressed caution in releasing details that could compromise the search. Massey and Groves are among a total of 10 inmates who escaped on May 16 through a hole they created in a cell wall by dismantling a toilet and sink unit. Since the breakout, eight inmates have been recaptured, and many others have been arrested for assisting the escapees.
The first three inmates were caught shortly after the escape, while the remaining five were apprehended in the following weeks, including those found over 300 miles away in Texas. Massey, who faces multiple serious charges including domestic abuse and theft, also has an outstanding warrant for additional violent offenses in St. Tammany Parish. The search for him and Groves continues as law enforcement agencies work collaboratively.
