Yankees Secure Victory Over Red Sox Despite Injury Scare
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Yankees triumphed over the Boston Red Sox 9-6 in an exciting matchup on Friday night at Yankee Stadium, marking the first meeting between the two AL rivals this season.
Anthony Volpe made a powerful impact, starting the game with a home run during a five-run first inning. However, his night was cut short when he was hit on the left elbow by a pitch from Walker Buehler in the second inning. He was replaced after X-rays and a CT scan revealed no major concerns.
In a standout performance, Aaron Judge notched his ninth game with three or more hits, boosting his major league-leading batting average to .397. Jazz Chisholm Jr. shone brightly as well, contributing three hits, a homer, four RBIs, and two stolen bases. The Yankees quickly established a commanding lead, scoring eight runs through the fifth inning.
Boston, now 30-35, faced its ninth loss in 12 games, struggling defensively with two errors that pushed their league-high total to 57. Rafael Devers and rookie Marcelo Mayer added homers for the Red Sox, but it wasn’t enough to overcome New York’s dominance.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night with Yankees’ Ryan Yarbrough and Red Sox’ Garrett Crochet on the mound.
