Red Sox Struggles Continue as Buehler Falters Against Yankees

In a disappointing outing, Walker Buehler faced significant challenges during the Boston Red Sox’s 9-6 loss to the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Friday. The former Dodger, who contributed to Los Angeles’ 2024 World Series win, struggled immensely in his first start at the venue as a Red Sox player, giving up seven runs (five earned) in just two innings. The Yankees capitalized on Buehler’s poor performance, with Jazz Chisholm and Anthony Volpe hitting crucial home runs in the first inning.
Buehler’s frustrations were evident as he expressed his disappointment, stating, "This organization put a lot of faith in me… I’ve been [expletive] embarrassing.” So far this season, he holds a 5.18 ERA and has only managed three quality starts out of ten outings. Despite a promising stretch prior to this game, in which he recorded a 3.44 ERA, Buehler’s recent performances reflect ongoing inconsistency, mirroring the struggles of a Red Sox pitching staff that has allowed a staggering 21 runs in the first inning over their last 13 games.
With playoff aspirations dwindling, Buehler and the Red Sox look to regroup quickly.
