Massachusetts Health Officials Warn of Botulism Linked to Botox Injections
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) issued a warning regarding a rising cluster of botulism cases connected to Botox injections performed at Rodrigo Beauty spa in Milton. The department is currently investigating 10 cases of suspected iatrogenic botulism tied to procedures conducted at the facility located at 464 Granite Ave.
Iatrogenic botulism is a rare but serious illness that occurs when botulinum toxin spreads beyond the injection site, resulting in potentially life-threatening symptoms. The DPH advises anyone who received Botox injections at Rodrigo Beauty between May 1 and June 4 to contact them immediately at 617-983-6800 or reach out to their local health board, regardless of whether they are experiencing symptoms.
Recognizable symptoms include blurred or double vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, and breathing problems. The DPH cautioned that patients and healthcare providers should be vigilant for these symptoms following Botox treatments.
In a critical message, officials urged anyone showing symptoms to seek immediate medical attention, emphasizing that early recognition and treatment can significantly enhance outcomes. The advisory also reminded the public to ensure they receive cosmetic treatments from licensed professionals in accredited medical facilities.
