Worcester Red Sox Achieve Historic Six-Game Sweep with Seventh Consecutive Win
Worcester, MA – The Worcester Red Sox continued their impressive form, extending their win streak to seven games on Sunday afternoon with a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Rochester Red Wings at Polar Park. This impressive sweep marks the second time in franchise history that the WooSox have completed a six-game sweep, the first occurring in September 2021.
Starting pitcher José de León set the tone for Worcester, throwing four scoreless innings before being replaced in the fifth by Brendan Cellucci. Cellucci faced immediate challenges, issuing back-to-back walks that permitted Rochester to score first. A single from Daylen Lile brought in the initial run, followed by Andrés Chaparro’s explosive three-run home run, giving the Red Wings a 4-0 lead.
However, Worcester responded with determination in the sixth inning. Konnor Pilkington of Rochester struggled with control, walking four batters, which allowed the WooSox to claw back and tie the game at 4-4. Two of the walks resulted in runs, while Trayce Thompson’s two-run double nearly put Worcester ahead. The inning ended when Ryan Noda was thrown out at home.
The game swung in Worcester’s favor with another challenging inning for Rochester’s pitching, where the WooSox capitalized to take a 5-4 lead, despite loading the bases. Bryan Mata closed out the match with two scoreless innings, solidifying the WooSox’s victory.
With their winning streak intact, Worcester is set to enjoy a well-deserved day off before embarking on a six-game road trip against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs beginning Tuesday night. The team looks poised to carry this momentum forward as the season progresses.
