Press Article: Bergeron Cheers for Former Teammate Marchand Amid Stanley Cup Final
While Patrice Bergeron is not participating in this year’s Stanley Cup Final, his support is firmly behind his longtime friend and former teammate, Brad Marchand. The Florida Panthers stand just three wins away from clinching the coveted title, bolstered by Marchand’s impressive performance this playoff season.
Bergeron, who spent 14 seasons with Marchand on the Boston Bruins—winning the Stanley Cup in 2011—expressed unwavering support for his friend during an appearance on NESN’s “Unobstructed Views.” “I’m really cheering for Brad… I just want him to get it. He deserves it,” Bergeron stated, highlighting Marchand’s pivotal role in the Panthers’ success.
At 37, Marchand has showcased remarkable skills, tallying 17 points in 19 games this postseason, including a game-winning double-overtime effort in Game 2 against the Edmonton Oilers. This achievement made him the first NHL player to score both a shorthanded and overtime goal in the same game.
Despite finding it odd to see Marchand in a Panthers jersey, Bergeron wishes him success, stating, “It’s been an adjustment, but I wish him and the Panthers all the best.”
