Airline Servicing Florida and the Caribbean Shuts Down Unexpectedly

Silver Airways Ceases Operations, Leaving Passengers Stranded

Silver Airways, a regional carrier operating flights in Florida and the Caribbean, abruptly announced the cessation of its operations effective immediately, urging travelers not to head to the airport. The airline served five airports in Florida—including Fort Lauderdale and Tampa—as well as 11 locations across the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and several Caribbean islands.

In a travel advisory published on its website and social media, Silver stated, “We regret to inform you that we are ceasing operations as of today, June 11.” The announcement comes following the airline’s attempt to restructure through bankruptcy, which included a deal to sell its assets to another airline. Unfortunately, the acquiring company decided not to continue Silver’s flight operations.

Passengers with bookings will receive refunds through their credit card companies or travel agencies. This sudden shutdown has left many travelers scrambling for alternative flights or needing to cancel their plans. Reports indicate that most of Silver’s remaining employees will face job losses, with only its subsidiary, Seaborne Airlines, continuing operations in the Caribbean. Established in 2011, Silver once serviced up to 28 locations.
