Guerschon Yabusele, a former NBA first-round pick, is poised to be one of the most sought-after free agents this summer following a successful season with the Philadelphia 76ers. After competing in the 2023 Paris Olympics, he made a strategic comeback with a minimum contract, betting on himself to reclaim his place in the league.
In an interview with HoopsHype, Yabusele reflected on his journey, crediting his earlier stint with the Boston Celtics for shaping his renewed determination. “Even though I was not with Boston anymore, I learned so much from that season… it really pushed me,” he commented about the challenges he faced during his initial NBA tenure from 2017-2019.
After being waived by the Celtics, Yabusele faced a difficult period, spending time in China and enduring a month and a half without a team. This experience served as a wake-up call, prompting him to reevaluate his approach and work ethic. “I questioned myself a lot… I was determined to prove everybody wrong,” he said.
Yabusele’s perseverance paid off when he signed with ASVEL in France, eventually shining in Spain with Real Madrid and securing a EuroLeague title. His recent performance, averaging 11.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists over 70 games this past season, combined with shooting 38% from beyond the arc, has drawn attention from multiple teams, including the 76ers keen on re-signing him.
As Yabusele aims to remain in the NBA, he expressed motivation to enhance his game further. “Watching the playoffs, I want to be there,” he noted, emphasizing his competitive spirit as he prepares for the upcoming season. With his recent success, Yabusele is ready to land with a new team and continue his basketball journey.
