Massachusetts Congressmen Sign Resolution Expressing Gratitude to ICE: Here’s the Reason Why.

Massachusetts Democrats Face Backlash Over ICE Resolution

A recent resolution condemning an antisemitic attack in Boulder, Colorado, has sparked controversy among Massachusetts Democrats. The House passed the resolution, which garnered 280 votes in favor and 113 against, with 75 Democrats joining predominantly Republican supporters. Prominent Massachusetts representatives, including Jake Auchincloss and Seth Moulton, were among those criticized for expressing "gratitude" to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the resolution.

The attack involved an Egyptian national allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails at demonstrators calling for the release of Israeli hostages, injuring multiple individuals. Following the incident, ICE detained the suspect’s wife and children. Critics, including Jonathan Cohn of Progressive Massachusetts, condemned the inclusion of ICE language, claiming it inaccurately blended issues of public safety with the agency’s controversial immigration actions.

Moulton defended his vote, stating the primary focus was to denounce the attack. He emphasized the importance of addressing both antisemitism and the implications of ICE’s operations. As tensions concerning immigration policy mount, Massachusetts Democrats must navigate the delicate balance between supporting law enforcement and responding to constituents’ concerns regarding ICE’s actions.
