Walpole Advances to State Final Fueled by Strong Offensive Performances from Naughton and Hagan

Walpole Dominates Westwood in Playoff Showdown

WEYMOUTH — Walpole’s girls lacrosse team rallied to a commanding 14-6 victory over Westwood in a highly anticipated playoff matchup Tuesday night. UMass commit Caitlyn Naughton showcased her skills with four goals, matched by junior Emily Hagan, both instrumental in propelling the second-ranked Timberwolves to victory.

The first half started evenly, with Walpole initially leading 2-0 before Westwood’s Charlotte DeMaio answered. The Timberwolves took a slim 4-2 lead into halftime, but the second half saw a dominating Walpole performance. Naughton quickly restored a two-goal lead after Westwood closed the gap, and the Timberwolves surged ahead, ultimately overwhelming their opponents.

Walpole coach Mike Tosone praised the team’s relentless energy, likening it to a basketball team’s full-court press. The victory sets up a clash with No. 4 Reading in the Div. 2 championship, which recently upset top-ranked Notre Dame (Hingham). This will mark Walpole’s fifth trip to a state title game, as they aim to end a lengthy championship drought.

“Reading is a worthy opponent,” Tosone remarked, looking forward to a competitive final.
