Hingham Mom Voices Concerns After Daughter’s Nude Deepfake Circulates

Hingham Mother Seeks Accountability After AI Image Incident

HINGHAM, MA — A local mother, Megan Mancini, is pushing for accountability following a troubling incident at Hingham Middle School, where a student allegedly created and distributed an AI-generated nude photo of her daughter and another student. Mancini filed a Title IX complaint in January but was informed in April that there was "insufficient evidence" to discipline the student, despite acknowledging the conduct as "inappropriate and hurtful."

Superintendent Kathryn Roberts denied an appeal on June 4, leading Mancini to express her frustration over the school’s lack of action. “Deepfakes are a real thing, and if we don’t address this, it will get worse,” she emphasized. The affected students reportedly learned about the image during school hours, and the creator later admitted involvement in a text message, yet no disciplinary measures have been taken against him.

Mancini has also notified the police but decided against pursuing charges, believing that it would not yield substantial outcomes. She described the situation as debilitating for her daughter, who has been reluctant to return to school. Mancini calls for better policies to prevent such incidents, asserting, “This can’t be tolerated.”
