St. John’s Prep Boys Tennis Captains Celebrate MIAA Div. I Championship Victory

CAMBRIDGE – The St. John’s Prep boys tennis team showcased their dominance once again, clinching the MIAA Div. I state championship with pride and determination. Captains Wade Evitts and James de Buy Wenniger proudly held the championship trophy aloft, a symbol of resilience and growth after being sidelined during last year’s title run.

Last season, the Eagles were a powerhouse, filled with exceptional talent that no team could rival. However, Evitts and de Buy Wenniger had to watch from the sidelines as their teammates celebrated victory. This year, they stepped into leadership roles, driving the team towards success.

Their journey was characterized by hard work, strategic gameplay, and an unyielding team spirit. Coach Mark Metropolis praised their dedication, emphasizing how vital the captains were in galvanizing the squad throughout the season. “They’ve transformed their experience into motivation for their teammates,” Metropolis stated, highlighting their dual role as both leaders and seasoned players.

The Eagles faced formidable opponents but consistently demonstrated superior skills and teamwork. The culmination of their efforts came to fruition during the championship match, where they executed their strategies flawlessly, earning them the coveted title.

As celebrations ensued, the focus shifted to the future. Evitts and de Buy Wenniger aim to build on this success, mentoring underclassmen to maintain the legacy of excellence at St. John’s Prep. The team’s performance this season solidifies their status as a dominant force in Massachusetts high school tennis, leaving other teams to ponder how they can overcome the Eagles’ remarkable synergy and tenacity.

The championship victory not only marks a milestone for the team but also cements the determination of St. John’s Prep to remain at the pinnacle of high school tennis.
