Authorities are intensifying their search for Vance Luther Boelter, the prime suspect in a series of politically motivated shootings in Minnesota that left a lawmaker and her husband dead, while wounding another state senator and his wife. Boelter allegedly impersonated law enforcement to gain access to the victims’ homes and exchanged gunfire with police before fleeing. The FBI has placed a $50,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
Boelter’s background is shrouded in mystery; he has claimed various occupations, ranging from working in the food service industry to managing security firms operating in conflict zones. His recent communications with a roommate, David Carlson, have raised concerns. Carlson received a text from Boelter indicating he might be “dead soon” shortly before the attacks, leading him to contact law enforcement.
Despite having no known political affiliations, Boelter was appointed to Governor Tim Walz’s Workforce Development Board in 2019, where he was categorized as a business representative. He also participated as a speaker for a nonprofit focused on African immigrant communities in Minnesota, although he was never employed or contracted by them.
Following the violent incidents, police discovered writings in Boelter’s SUV that included a list of officials’ names and references to protests, suggesting a political motive. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant, as Boelter is considered armed and dangerous. His portrayal online as a security expert has been scrutinized, and inconsistencies in his claims highlight the enigmatic nature of his character and motives.
