Kawasaki Issues Recall for 17,000 Motorcycles Over Safety Concerns
Kawasaki is recalling over 17,000 motorcycles due to significant safety risks, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall affects the 2024-2025 Ninja ZX-6R models, specifically the MY24 NINJA ZX-6R 40th Anniversary Edition ABS, MY24-25 Ninja ZX-6R ABS/KRT Edition ABS, and the Ninja ZX-6R/KRT Edition.
Produced between April 3 and April 28, 2023, a total of 17,792 motorcycles are at risk of engine power loss caused by a seizure of a metal crankshaft bushing. The NHTSA indicated that the crankshaft bolts were over-torqued, leading to improper oil clearance that could damage the bushing.
This critical failure can result in severe consequences, including crashes, potential fires, injuries, or fatalities. As such, the administration strongly advises affected motorcycle owners to refrain from riding until necessary repairs are made. Kawasaki is currently working on a remedy for the issue. Owners are encouraged to stay informed as the situation develops.
