Starfires Honor Father’s Day with Victory Over Sea Unicorns

Westfield Starfires Dominate Norwich Sea Unicorns in 12-2 Victory

WESTFIELD – The Westfield Starfires celebrated a much-anticipated win with a decisive 12-2 victory over the Norwich Sea Unicorns at Bullens Field on Sunday. This triumph marks the Starfires’ fifth win of the season, improving their record to 5-12, while Norwich falls to 7-8.

The game began with Westfield scoring first, thanks to a two-out rally initiated by a walk to Connecticut Husky Evan Menzel. Josh Frometa then doubled, bringing Menzel home, followed by newcomer Jack Quetschenbach’s single that scored Frometa, giving the Starfires a 2-0 lead—a first for them in nine games.

The Starfires extended their lead in the second inning, capitalizing on Norwich’s struggles with control. Despite no hits, they scored two runs through a wild pitch and Michael Quiros’s groundout. The third inning saw a further blow to Norwich as Ulloa hit a three-run double, bringing the score to 8-0.

Starting pitcher Greg Strite delivered an impressive performance, striking out five and shutting out Norwich for three innings. The Sea Unicorns managed to score two runs in the fourth, with a homer from Kenny Noe, but were held scoreless through the middle innings by Dan Lang.

The seventh inning sealed Norwich’s fate as Westfield scored four more runs, including another from Ulloa, who finished with four RBIs. Both Ulloa and Quetschenbach had two hits apiece, highlighting their contributions to the dominating win.

Strite earned the win, and Lang secured the save, keeping the Sea Unicorns at bay. The Starfires will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming matchup against the Nashua Silver Knights on Tuesday.
