Barbra Streisand Reflects on Past with Warren Beatty
Barbra Streisand, the iconic singer and actress, recently stirred up memories of her rumored 1970s romance with Warren Beatty during an interview with The New Yorker. At 83, Streisand remains coy about whether their relationship included a physical aspect, humorously stating, “I know I slept in the bed with him, but I can’t remember if we actually had penetration.” This conversation echoes her sentiments in her 2023 memoir, My Name Is Barbra.
The star, who first met Beatty at the Clinton Playhouse in Connecticut when she was 16, described him as “tall with movie-star looks” and noted how “women were already falling at his feet.” While probing about their past connection, she deflected by emphasizing their strong friendship: “I know we’re still friends… Every year on my birthday, he calls me and we have a wonderful talk about our lives.”
In her memoir, Streisand recounts a flirty exchange during a 1977 Playboy interview where she casually referred to Beatty as “one of my flings.” Despite the playful conversation, there remains a cloud of mystery around their relationship, with Streisand reflecting on how Beatty once mentioned remembering why they broke up, to which she jokingly asked, “When were we together?”
Both stars have built separate lives since their early days. Streisand married actor James Brolin in 1998, while Beatty wed actress Annette Bening in 1992. Despite their romantic past, they cherish a lifelong friendship, demonstrating that some Hollywood connections transcend the screen and time itself.
