Breyers Ice Cream Recall: Undeclared Allergen Raises Safety Concerns
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of nearly 6,700 cases of Breyers ice cream due to mislabeling that presents a potential health risk for those with nut allergies. The affected product involves rocky road flavor ice cream mistakenly packaged in tubs labeled as chocolate truffle flavor. While the chocolate truffle tubs indicate they “may contain tree nuts,” the rocky road flavor contains almonds, which can be hazardous for individuals with nut allergies.
Compounding the issue, the mispackaged ice cream may still have been sealed with a correctly labeled rocky road flavor lid, heightening the risk of allergen exposure. The recalled 1.5-quart tubs were distributed nationwide, prompting a call for consumers with nut allergies to check their freezers.
The FDA has not provided additional information regarding the recall. Consumers are urged to return the affected products to their place of purchase for a full refund. This incident highlights the ongoing need for vigilance in food labeling and the importance of addressing allergen safety in food products.
