Lynn Man Pleads Guilty to Threatening Elected Official Online
BOSTON – Justin David Gaglio, a 51-year-old resident of Lynn, pleaded guilty in federal court on Monday to charges of making threats to an elected official via the internet. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah Foley’s office.
Gaglio’s online threats began in January 2023 and continued until September 8, 2024. During this period, he sent a staggering 80 messages through the official’s website, with several sent in quick succession. The nature of these messages escalated to a direct threat, in which Gaglio stated intentions to kill the official and their family.
Law enforcement responded to the alarming situation, leading to Gaglio’s arrest on September 27. He made his initial court appearance later that same day.
The charge of transmitting interstate threats is serious, carrying a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison, along with three years of supervised release and a possible fine of up to $250,000. Gaglio is scheduled for sentencing on September 9.
This case highlights the growing concern over online threats aimed at public officials, emphasizing the legal repercussions such actions can entail.
