Red Sox Pitcher Lucas Giolito Shines in Victory Over Mariners
SEATTLE — In a stunning display of skill, Red Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito led his team to a 2-0 victory against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park on Monday, striking out 10 batters and navigating a tricky bases-loaded, no-out situation in the third inning without allowing a run.
After the Mariners’ Nos. 7-9 hitters loaded the bases, Giolito shifted into high gear, fanning leadoff hitter J.P. Crawford with a 95.7 mph fastball, followed by Julio Rodríguez and Cal Raleigh with a changeup and curveball, respectively. This marked a career first for Giolito, escaping such a jam by striking out the side.
Giolito, who allowed only three hits and one walk throughout the game, credited catcher Carlos Narváez for helping devise a strategic game plan. "I was just trying to execute right through his glove," Giolito said.
Utilizing a strong fastball complemented by effective secondary pitches, Giolito recorded 18 swings and misses, underscoring his mastery on the mound. "Everything was working pretty good," he remarked, pointing to his mechanical consistency. This performance not only showcased Giolito’s talent but also strengthened the Red Sox in their campaign.
