Major Lane Reductions on I-90 for Bridge Reconstruction Project
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced a lane reduction on I-90 between exits 123 and 125 in Newton and Weston, beginning Friday at 9 p.m. and lasting until Monday at 5 a.m. This is part of a significant bridge reconstruction project that is expected to cause substantial traffic delays. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid potential delays of up to three hours.
This ongoing $400 million project involves the replacement and rehabilitation of eight aging bridges in the I-495/I-90 interchange area. Five bridges will be completely replaced, while one will be rehabilitated and two will have their superstructures replaced. Although the structures are currently safe, they require critical improvements due to deterioration.
In addition to highway lane reductions, the Framingham/Worcester Commuter Rail line will temporarily halt service between South Station and Framingham. Shuttle bus services will be provided between various stations, and fare will be waived throughout the weekend.
Drivers and commuters are encouraged to plan accordingly as MassDOT continues its maintenance efforts to ensure safer travel corridors.
