Red Sox Starter Walker Buehler Struggles in Loss to Mariners
SEATTLE — Boston Red Sox pitcher Walker Buehler faced a challenging outing against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park on Tuesday, resulting in an 8-0 loss for the Red Sox. Buehler’s ERA climbed to 5.95 after allowing eight runs on eight hits and four walks in just 3 ⅓ innings, striking out only two players.
Frustrated with his performance, Buehler expressed disappointment in failing to maintain the momentum of a team that had won six consecutive games. “To be an older guy that was brought in here to try and help lead… is tough and embarrassing,” he said.
Manager Alex Cora noted Buehler’s difficulty in finishing off hitters once ahead in counts. “He wasn’t able to finish hitters,” Cora stated, highlighting that five hits allowed occurred after Buehler led in the count.
Despite only one hit coming from behind in the count, Buehler struggled to throw strikes, landing just 58.1% of his pitches in the zone. “It’s just not what we’re looking for,” Buehler admitted, as the team seeks to address these issues moving forward.
