Westfield Starfires Upset Worcester Bravehearts with Dominant Performance
WORCESTER – The Westfield Starfires snapped the Worcester Bravehearts’ 10-game winning streak with a commanding 7-2 victory at Fitton Field on Wednesday night. The Starfires improved their season record to 6-12, while the Bravehearts fell to 12-5, maintaining a 2.5-game lead in the standings against the Vermont Lake Monsters.
Starfires pitcher Cody Hessellton set the tone early, effectively stifling Worcester’s offense, which struggled to capitalize on opportunities. The Bravehearts managed to get runners on base but were thwarted twice with caught stealings. In stark contrast, the Starfires erupted in the fourth inning, scoring five runs due to a combination of patient hitting and defensive errors by Worcester.
Key contributions came from players like Evan Ruggiero and Josh Frometa, with both recording multiple hits and RBI. The Starfires built their lead to 7-2, despite a late rally from the Bravehearts in the ninth that was ultimately quelled by reliever Justin Bowman, who struck out the league’s power-hitting leader.
The Starfires will look to maintain their momentum as they face the Norwich Sea Unicorns in an upcoming road game scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
