BTS’s Suga Wraps Up Military Service; Reunion Planned for 2025 – NBC New York

BTS’s Suga Discharged from Military Service, Completing Reunion of All Members

In a significant milestone for BTS fans worldwide, Suga, the acclaimed rapper and songwriter from the global K-pop phenomenon, has officially completed his mandatory military service. His discharge was confirmed by Big Hit Entertainment, marking the return of all seven BTS members from their enlistment duties. Suga completed his alternative service as a social service agent, utilizing his remaining leave, with an official discharge date set for Saturday.

This occasion is particularly momentous for fans as it paves the way for BTS’s anticipated reunion, projected for 2025. The group’s management agency previously announced that no official events would be held to celebrate Suga’s release due to concerns about overcrowding.

Suga’s discharge follows that of his fellow bandmates: RM and V last week, and Jimin and Jung Kook just a day later, all of whom enlisted in December 2023. BTS’s oldest member, Jin, completed his service in June 2024, while J-Hope was discharged in October.

The conscription system in South Korea mandates military service for able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28, typically lasting 18 to 21 months. However, K-pop stars like BTS benefited from an amendment to the Military Service Act in 2020 that allowed them to defer their enlistment until age 30. Despite debates over potential military exemptions for the group, BTS’s management confirmed that all seven members would fulfill their obligations.

BTS has also been at the forefront of social advocacy, recently addressing issues of diversity and hate crimes during a White House event for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, reinforcing their commitment to global unity and representation.
