White Sox Promote Wikelman González, Third Prospect from Crochet Trade to Enter Majors

The Chicago White Sox have announced the promotion of Wikelman González, marking him as the third former Boston Red Sox prospect acquired in the Garrett Crochet trade to reach the major leagues this season. The trade, which took place on December 11, sent four players—González, Kyle Teel, Chase Meidroth, and Braden Montgomery—to Chicago in exchange for pitcher Crochet.

González, a 23-year-old right-handed pitcher, started the season with Double-A Birmingham before moving up to Triple-A Charlotte on April 29. In 12 relief appearances for Charlotte, he demonstrated a dominant performance with a 5-0 record and a 2.75 ERA, allowing only nine hits while opposing batters managed a mere .138 average against him. However, control remained a challenge, as he recorded 15 walks to 18 strikeouts in 19 ⅔ innings.

Meidroth, also 23, has contributed significantly, boasting a .274 batting average with two homers and nine RBIs over 52 games with the White Sox. Teel has also seen action, although his performance has been modest thus far. This promotion underscores the promising talent emerging from the White Sox’s recent trades.
