Man Re-arrested in Connection with Wife’s 2020 Murder After Charges Were Previously Dismissed

Barry Morphew, a Colorado man, was recently arrested for the murder of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, after a grand jury indicted him on first-degree murder charges. The indictment came years after he was originally charged in 2021 following Suzanne’s disappearance on Mother’s Day 2020. Those charges were dropped in 2022, but prosecutors left the door open for future charges. Morphew was taken into custody in Arizona and is set for extradition to Colorado, where his bail is set at $3 million.

Suzanne was last seen on May 10, 2020, when she went for a bike ride, and her husband was reported to be the last person to see her alive. Following a lengthy search, her remains were discovered in September 2023, along with findings from an autopsy that indicated homicide and the presence of tranquilizer drugs in her system. Additionally, a deleted text message from Suzanne on May 6 expressed her frustrations with their relationship.

Despite the renewed charges, Barry Morphew continues to maintain his innocence, asserting that the prosecution is focused incorrectly on him while ignoring other potential suspects. His attorney claimed the case has not changed and that Morphew’s innocence will be proven. Notably, the earlier dismissal of charges was influenced by issues related to key witnesses and evidence, including an unknown male’s DNA found in Suzanne’s SUV.

In May 2023, Morphew filed a $15 million lawsuit against law enforcement for violating his constitutional rights, emphasizing his belief that authorities are too fixated on him as a suspect.
