Devers Powers Giants to 3-2 Victory Over Red Sox with Homer Against Former Team

Devers Shines in Giants’ Victory Over Red Sox

San Francisco, CA – June 21, 2025 – Associated Press

In a thrilling matchup at Oracle Park, the San Francisco Giants edged the Boston Red Sox 3-2, thanks to Rafael Devers’ standout performance. Acquired just six days earlier from Boston, Devers hit his first home run for the Giants, a two-run blast in the fourth inning, which marked his 216th career home run. The towering shot sailed over the left-field fence, a moment made memorable by the fan who caught the ball while sporting a Red Sox jersey.

Despite Devers’ powerful contribution, the game had a shaky start for the Giants, who had only managed two wins in their last seven attempts. Heliot Ramos added to the Giants’ momentum with a homer of his own, while pitcher Landen Roupp bounced back from a previous rough outing, fanning seven batters over six scoreless innings and earning the victory.

The Red Sox, who were on a hot streak having won seven of their last eight games, mounted a comeback in the ninth. Boston managed to score twice against Giants closer Camilo Doval, putting the tying run on second base with one out, but Doval managed to secure his 12th save by getting Marcelo Mayer and pinch-hitter Romy Gonzalez to ground out.

Devers’ achievement makes him only the 10th player in Major League Baseball history to hit a home run for and against the same team within a week. The Giants will look to build on this victory as they prepare for their next game, sending right-hander Luis Giolito to the mound against the Red Sox’s Robbie Ray.
