In a historic announcement, Zdeno Chara has earned his place in the Hockey Hall of Fame, set to be inducted on November 10 in Toronto. This recognition comes in his first year of eligibility, joining fellow Boston stalwarts Joe Thornton and Jack Parker in the Class of 2025.
Chara, the formidable defenseman known for his towering presence at 6-foot-9, significantly impacted the Boston Bruins during his 14 seasons. He led the team to its first Stanley Cup victory in 39 years in 2011, shaping a culture that resonates within the Original Six franchise. He played a pivotal role in the Bruins reaching the Stanley Cup Final twice more in 2013 and 2019.
"Zdeno’s skill set stands among the most unique in the century-plus history of the NHL," said Bruins president Cam Neely. Chara’s career statistics boast 1,023 games played with the Bruins, amassing 148 goals and 333 assists for 481 points, placing him third in points among Bruins defensemen. He also won the Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenseman for the 2008-09 season.
Joining Chara, Thornton, a former number-one overall draft pick, was instrumental in the Bruins’ early 2000s success before his trade to the San Jose Sharks. During his time in Boston, he collected 454 points in 532 games.
Jack Parker, with an influential 40-year coaching tenure at Boston University, is recognized as a builder in hockey, leading the Terriers to three national championships.
The 2025 Hall of Fame class also includes Duncan Keith, Alexander Mogilny, Jennifer Botterill, Brianna Decker, and Daniele Sauvageau, further showcasing the depth of talent entering the sport’s annals.
