Josh Pickles: DoorDash Executive Tragically Dies in Lake Tahoe Boat Accident

A tragic boating accident at Lake Tahoe claimed the lives of eight individuals, including a recent father, Joshua Antony Pickles, 37, who was celebrating his mother’s birthday with family and friends. The group was aboard a 27-foot Chris-Craft boat when a sudden storm created 8-foot swells, causing the vessel to capsize near D.L. Bliss State Park. The deceased included Pickles’ parents, Terry, 73, and Paula, 71, and his uncle, Peter Bayes, 72. Among the other victims were Timothy O’Leary, 71, Theresa Giullari, 66, James Guck, 69, and Stephen Lindsay, 63. Two passengers survived the incident.

Joshua Pickles was known for his role as the head of strategic sourcing at DoorDash in San Francisco. He had been with the company for seven years, following stints at Cisco Systems and Salesforce. DoorDash’s CFO praised Pickles as an inspiring leader whose infectious spirit greatly impacted his colleagues.

His wife, Jordan Sugar-Carlsgaard, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her husband, his parents, and uncle, highlighting that the outing was intended to be a joyful celebration. The couple had married two years prior and welcomed their daughter just seven months ago.

Pickles was a part owner of the boat, which he had purchased the previous year, and this excursion was their first boating trip of the season. A family spokesman described the situation as a heartbreaking tragedy, reflecting the immense grief felt by those left behind. The incident has left a significant impact on the community and loved ones of the victims.
