Celtics Select Hugo Gonzalez in 2025 NBA Draft
In a surprising move during the 2025 NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics selected 19-year-old Hugo Gonzalez from Madrid, Spain, with the 28th overall pick. Celtics President of Basketball Operations, Brad Stevens, expressed enthusiasm for Gonzalez, praising his potential despite a modest average of 3.4 points per game this past season with Real Madrid. "We’ve been watching Hugo for a long time… He’s tough, hard-playing, and has all the intangibles of a winning player," Stevens noted.
Gonzalez joined Real Madrid in 2022, competing on both the U18 and professional teams, where he trained alongside former NBA talents like Serge Ibaka and Guerschon Yabusele.
