New England Revolution’s Struggles Continue with Loss to Orlando City
Foxborough, MA—In a disappointing continuation of their current slump, the New England Revolution fell 2-1 to Orlando City on Saturday night, marking their eighth straight game without a win. The loss came amidst ideal summer weather at Gillette Stadium, further frustrating fans and players alike.
Orlando City took an early lead in the 18th minute when forward Martín Ojeda capitalized on a defensive misstep by New England’s goalkeeper, Aljaz Ivacic. Although New England responded in the second half with an equalizer from Tomas Chancalay, who connected on a cross from Ilay Feingold, their momentary resurgence was cut short. Just three minutes later, Ojeda found the net again, sealing the victory for Orlando.
Despite having a nearly full-strength lineup, the Revolution managed no shots on target in the first half, underscoring their ongoing offensive struggles. With the team now sitting in 11th place in the Eastern Conference and eight points away from the playoff line, the pressure mounts as they prepare for their next match against CF Montreal. Head coach Caleb Porter faces increasing scrutiny as the team’s chances of a postseason berth dwindle.
The Revolution will need to find their footing quickly to muster some momentum in the coming weeks.
