Boston Man Charged in Home Invasion of Friend
A 66-year-old man from Roxbury, Juan Blanco, is facing severe charges following a violent home invasion that occurred on April 9, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Blanco has been charged with home invasion, aggravated assault, and larceny, among others, after allegedly attacking a friend, a 68-year-old man, during the incident.
The Boston police responded to the home invasion report around 1:30 p.m. at a residence on Bowdoin Street in Dorchester. Upon arrival, officers found the victim with significant injuries, including a swollen nose and lip. The victim informed investigators that Blanco had unexpectedly knocked on his door earlier that day. Upon opening the door, Blanco allegedly assaulted him with the back of a knife, rendering him unconscious.
Upon regaining consciousness, the victim discovered he was covered in blood and unable to comprehend the extent of the attack. Further investigation revealed that Blanco stole the victim’s Social Security Direct Express card, which held a balance of $1,000 and had the PIN written on its back.
After the victim identified Blanco from a photo array, police obtained an arrest warrant. The district attorney noted the unfortunate emotional weight of the incident, highlighting that the victim considered Blanco a friend. Blanco, who has a history of various assault charges and previous prison time, is currently being held without bail. He is set to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on Friday.
Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden expressed concern over the case, acknowledging the tragic circumstances surrounding an act of violence committed by someone the victim trusted.
