Why Alex Cora is Unfazed by the Red Sox Offense Striking Out 28 Times in Just Two Games

Red Sox Struggle Against Phillies’ Sánchez in 4-1 Loss

PHILADELPHIA — The Boston Red Sox faced a challenging setback on Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Phillies, falling 4-1 as rookie Cristopher Sánchez delivered a dominant performance on the mound. Sánchez threw a complete game, striking out 12 batters and allowing just four hits, with the only Red Sox run coming from Rob Refsnyder’s solo home run in the fourth inning.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora praised Sánchez’s electric pitching, highlighting his unique fastball and effective changeup. “Today, he was on point,” Cora remarked. The Red Sox’s struggles at the plate continue to be evident, managing only 10 runs over their last five games, with just four runs in the four losses against strong pitching. They have struck out a staggering 28 times in 19 innings during their two defeats in Philadelphia.

Catcher Carlos Narváez, who went 0-for-3 with a strikeout, acknowledged the challenge posed by Sánchez. “The changeup was nasty,” he said, reflecting on Sánchez’s three-pitch mix that generated 19 swings-and-misses.

Rookie outfielder Roman Anthony, who had been on a hot streak prior to arriving at Citizens Bank Park, also struggled, going 1-for-9 with eight strikeouts in the series. Cora remains optimistic about Anthony, noting that “good pitching and execution” contributed to the team’s struggles.

With another tough matchup looming against Phillies lefty Jesús Luzardo on Wednesday, the Red Sox are eager to turn their fortunes around. “If we want to play in October, we have to find a way to hit those guys,” Cora stated. The team looks to regain its offensive momentum and bounce back in the series.
