Red Sox Eye Trade Deadline Moves Amidsluggish Performance

Boston, MA – July 23, 2025 – Boston Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow recently indicated that the team is preparing to be aggressive ahead of the upcoming July 31 trade deadline during an interview with SiriusXM. While the organization has its sights set on strengthening the roster, Breslow emphasized that they are also committed to operating efficiently.

With the team experiencing a decline in performance—having lost four of their last five games following the All-Star Break—the need for reinforcements is apparent. "We’ll be open-minded about opportunities to bring in a bat that can play first base and bolster our starting pitching," Breslow stated, acknowledging the impressive form of pitchers Lucas Giolito and Brayan Bello. However, he also recognized that depth in the rotation remains a priority as no team truly has "enough starting pitching."

Recent reports from ESPN’s Jeff Passan suggest that while the Red Sox are looking to make moves, they are cautious about committing to large-scale trades. "At this moment, the Red Sox are not inclined to engage in any large-scale deadline moves," Passan wrote, noting the organization’s preference for efficiency in a market characterized by high prices.

Despite being third in the AL East and contending for an AL Wild Card spot, the Red Sox have struggled offensively, scoring only 10 runs in their last five games, with a majority coming from a single outing. Fans and analysts alike are hopeful that Breslow will consider acquiring a game-changing bat or an additional reliable starter to complement Garrett Crochet.

With a history of lackluster trades last season, the pressure is mounting for Boston to avoid half measures as they move closer to the trade deadline. The coming days will be critical for the Red Sox as they strive to reinvigorate their season.
