Dodgers Defeat Red Sox 5-2, Ohtani’s Streak Snapped
BOSTON (AP) — In an exciting matchup at Fenway Park on Friday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers overcame the Boston Red Sox with a 5-2 victory. Shohei Ohtani, who had set a franchise record by homering in five consecutive games, did not add to his tally this time, striking out twice and contributing a single and a walk. Teoscar Hernandez stepped up for the Dodgers, delivering a two-run homer that solidified their lead in the eighth inning.
Emmet Sheehan earned the win, striking out five over five innings while holding Boston to just three hits. Ben Casparius closed it out with his first career save. Conversely, Red Sox starter Brayan Bello struggled, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings.
The Dodgers’ lineup was without 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts, who made his first return to Fenway since his trade to Los Angeles in 2020. Boston catcher Connor Wong finally made an impact, hitting a double off the Green Monster—his first extra-base hit of the season.
The series continues Saturday, with Garrett Crochet set to face Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw.
