Westfield Starfires Achieve Milestone in 14-7 Victory Over Nashua Silver Knights
WESTFIELD – In a standout performance on Saturday, third-year Starfire Josh Frometa secured his place in franchise history by tying the record for career hits during a 14-7 triumph over the Nashua Silver Knights at Bullens Field. Frometa, who entered the game with 66 hits, went 4-for-5, hitting two doubles and driving in four runs, thus matching Danny Crossen’s franchise record of 70 hits.
The Starfires improved their season record to 13-34-2, winning three of their last four games. Meanwhile, the Silver Knights, with their ninth consecutive loss, remain tied for the last playoff spot in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League at 22-28-0.
The game began well for Westfield with Griffin Enis hitting a single, followed by Frometa launching a two-run homer, giving the Starfires a 2-0 lead. A third run came from Anthony Ruggiero’s line drive home run. However, Nashua struck back in the fourth, tying the game with three runs.
Westfield regained the lead in the fourth as Frometa sparked the offense with a single and subsequent steal, leading to a two-run hit from Ben Williams. The Starfires added another run in the fifth due to a passed ball.
In the seventh inning, Westfield’s bats exploded. Fueled by walks and singles, they notched four more runs, with Frometa’s two-run double capping the inning and cementing his record-tying achievement.
Nashua scored two runs in the eighth, but Westfield’s defensive efforts preserved the win. Pitcher Brendan Murphy earned the victory, delivering five solid innings before a scoreless effort from the bullpen.
The Starfires are set for a challenging doubleheader against the Norwich Sea Unicorns on Sunday, aiming to continue their momentum against a team riding a four-game winning streak.
