Red Sox Turn Turbulent Flight into Team Spirit at Target Field
Minneapolis — After a tumultuous journey to Minneapolis, the Boston Red Sox are finding humor in their harrowing experience. Following a charter flight plagued by severe turbulence and an unplanned detour to Detroit, players have embraced the ordeal, incorporating it into their on-field celebrations during a recent game against the Minnesota Twins.
The flight, which took off from Boston shortly after their win against the Dodgers, was a rocky experience marked by prolonged turbulence that left several players incapacitated with motion sickness. "It was the worst sustained turbulence I’ve ever experienced," said pitcher Lucas Giolito, recounting 45 minutes of anxiety as the plane bucked and dropped. Shortstop Trevor Story added, "It was probably the worst flight I’ve been on turbulence-wise."
Despite the challenges, the team cleverly transformed the unsettling experience into a light-hearted celebration. During their 8-5 victory on Tuesday, players greeted hits with a salute to the flight, mimicking a plane’s wings with their arms. "I thought it was amazing; embracing all the adversity," Story noted.
The Red Sox showcased a potent offense against rookie Pierson Ohl, with Story hitting a three-run homer and Jarren Duran reaching base three times. This offensive spark is exactly what the team has been looking for, especially after playing numerous tight games recently.
As they recover from their flight adventure, members of the Red Sox are using the experience to strengthen team bonds. "Those types of things bring people closer," Giolito said, reflecting on their shared challenge. With laughter and unity, the Red Sox are ready to face their next game with renewed spirit.
