Womencrafts Wins Jamie Lee Curtis-Inspired Culture Award
Provincetown’s beloved lesbian-owned bookstore, Womencrafts, has been honored with the inaugural Jamie Lee Curtis Award for Gusto, Enthusiasm, and Individuality at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, broadcast on Bravo. Hosted by SNL star Bowen Yang and comedian Matt Rodgers, the event combines comedy with cultural recognition, presenting a unique twist on traditional award ceremonies.
During the show, Curtis announced the award while playfully naming Womencrafts among five nominees. Lively humor continued as SNL’s Ana Gasteyer accepted the award on behalf of the shop, comically embodying a fictional store owner. She encouraged attendees to visit, referencing themed weeks like "bear week" and "pig week," and showcasing their offerings like RBG mugs and Kamala Harris shirts.
Womencrafts owner Michelle Axelson expressed delight at Gasteyer’s portrayal, highlighting the store’s connection to the community. The Provincetown Business Guild celebrated the win, praising Womencrafts for its contributions and advocacy. Established in 1976, the shop’s mission focuses on promoting female artists and fostering an inclusive atmosphere, making it a cultural cornerstone in Provincetown.
