Mike Vrabel Makes Brief Appearance at Tom Brady Statue Unveiling Before Preseason Opener
Foxborough, MA – Just 90 minutes ahead of his first preseason game as head coach of the New England Patriots, Mike Vrabel was spotted outside Gillette Stadium mingling with fans and Tom Brady’s father during the unveiling of a six-foot statue honoring the legendary quarterback. Although it’s uncommon for a head coach to stray from the stadium so close to kickoff, Vrabel emphasized the significance of the event, remarking, “It was always important to be out there.” He was present for the start of the 30-minute ceremony but left early to manage team responsibilities.
While Vrabel’s brief absence drew attention, it coincided with the preseason, typically a less hectic time. "There’s still the schedule and everything, meeting with the officials, the team, the coaches," he noted. Notably, only Carlton Davis remained from the current roster, illustrating the lack of overlap between the current Patriots squad and Brady’s era. In contrast, former teammates Jonathan Jones and Deatrich Wise of the Washington Commanders made time to attend.
Despite Vrabel’s short departure, the Patriots secured a commanding 48-18 victory against the Commanders in their preseason opener, demonstrating that team dynamics were unaffected.
